About the presenter:

Originally from the UK, Fran has been proud to head up professional learning at 3 international schools in the past 11 years. LEARNING, LEARNING and LEARNING is the core of her educational philosophy.

Fran believes that a school community should provide learning opportunities for ALL. By that Fran means, students, teachers, parents and anyone who is part of the school community. It is not only about the four walls of a building. A truly holistic approach allows students to SEE learning opportunities EVERWHERE and approach these opportunities with confident curiosity.

For the educational climate to be right, teachers also need to embrace learning opportunities and see themselves primarily as learning partners and mentors. Yes there is a role for information transmission, but this should act as a foundation for exploratory learning that meets students where they are, allows them to build on the knowledge and skills that they have; offer opportunities to take risks and embrace the potential for failure; and build skills grounded in critical thinking, creativity and innovation.

Fran likes to call these core skills EVERY century skills. As an educator Fran feels a profound responsibility to ensure that young people feel supported, nurtured and heard so that they can develop mastery in life skills. Skills that will truly serve them for life, in life and as an integral part of their lives wherever they are.

Fran endeavours to research means of doing this and disseminating knowledge and training to educators so that they in turn feel supported and equipped to bring this “Education for all” philosophy to life.
