About this module

This module highlights the importance of routines within the classroom and school environment. We begin by laying the foundations - what are routines, why are they important and where we see them within the educational context. We go on to explore how they support the behaviour and therefore the learning of pupils. Session 2 explores some practical strategies you can use to embed routines. This session is designed to give you some key, practical takeaways that you can implement in your classroom immediately.

This module is suitable for trainee teachers, ECTs and those wishing to improve their behaviour management skills, or hit the reset button on that troublesome class!

Session One: Exploring the importance of routines will take a look at:

  • What is a routine?
  • Where are routines seen within schools and where/why are they needed?
  • Why are routines an essential part of behaviour management and how do they support the learning of pupils?
  • How do we establish and maintain routines → clarify, model, practice, reinforce model

Session Two: Practical strategies for embedding routines will explore:

  • Non-verbal behaviour management techniques to support routines
  • Meet & Greet, End & Send
