We will explore the two roles of a writer - the author and the secretary - and how we can support pupils to develop each role throughout the writing process.
About this module
Writing is a multi-skilled, complex task with many elements competing for the writer’s attention. As teachers of writing, one of the most powerful things we can do for our pupils is to understand ourselves the knowledge and skills required of a writer so that we can develop these individually as well as teach pupils how to amalgamate them in the moment of writing.
This module is suitable for Primary Teachers, Secondary Teachers, Primary/Secondary English/Literacy Subject Leaders.
What you will learn:- Unpick the skills involved in composition and transcription
- Consider the complexity of amalgamating composition and transcription for developing writers
- Explore classroom approaches to support understanding and application of composition and transcription
- Reflect on current practice, both within English and across the curriculum, and how this might be developed
